There is always a light at the end of the tunnel…after two conservative years Mnambithi TVET College on not holding an Academic Ceremony, the College came back with a bang!!!

The days of the 6th and the 7th of October 2022 were a joy to Mnambithi TVET College students and families at Ezakheni A Campus where Diplomandii’s received their diplomas in a hall packed to its capacity. Students have waited for so long for their big day to receive their Diplomas due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Parents and family members could not help themselves when they saw their children walk on the academic procession and shake hands up on the stage to receive their diplomas.

The guest speakers for both days were Dr Lucky Maluleke (Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University) and Dr Nkhensani Maluleke (University of Pretoria). These doctors of philosophy are actually siblings, what a blessed family!! The address by the doctors was with reference to the usefulness of the TVET Sector programs against the background of skills shortage in the Country. The College was not spared as Dr L. Maluleke emphasized that the College has to ensure that the programs speak to the needs of the community. Lastly he spoke to the fact that there is a difference between education and being an educated person. Dr N. Maluleke hammered out on complacency, pulling no punches on the lack of service delivery because of complacent employees. Complacency leads to mediocrity and no organization can serve the community where employees put minimal effort into their work. In essence, the College should teach relevant programs and instil values in the students that will make the results exceed the expectations of the Community of Ladysmith. The fact that the doctors are related made their addresses ease into each other with no effort at all.

Food for the soul came from the College choir and on the second day, an opera soloist Mr. Mlamuli Magubane closed shops with his soulful voice that left the audience asking for more. Indeed, it was a memorable day for the parents, college staff and students.

The function was wrapped in style by surprising our Top Students/Graduates by issuing checks ranging from R2 500.00 – R3 500.00 each depending on number of distinctions obtained. Ms Mbali Prudence Mntungwa took a big chunk on the ABSA Donation as she obtained 11 distinctions in Human Resources Management followed by Mr Zwelibanzi Kubheka with 10 distinctions in Electrical Engineering. Students were so grateful to receive such cheques from our stakeholder ABSA Bank. Much appreciation goes to ABSA Bank for their donation towards encouraging the college students to work hard in order to achieve better marks.
